Coming from Pocket

Pocket closed.
Your reading list doesn't have to.

Upload the export Pocket gave you. We keep every link, its title, and the day you saved it. Nothing to sort, nothing to re-save.

Free. No Plus needed. Instapaper exports work too.

Sloth waving, holding a moving box of papers

Three steps.

Your part takes a few minutes. The rest happens in the background.

  1. Step one

    Find the file

Pocket's export arrived as a .zip. Unzip it and look for the .csv inside, usually named part_000000.csv. Older exports came as ril_export.html, and that works too.

  2. Step two

    Upload it

Drop the file on the import page and you'll see a preview first: how many links, how many are new. Up to 5,000 links or 10 MB per file. Bigger library? Split the file and upload it in parts. Anything already saved is skipped, so nothing doubles up.

  3. Step three

    Let it settle

The import itself takes a minute. Summaries and tags fill in over the next hour or so, longer for big libraries. You can close the page and come back.

The honest part

What comes over, and what doesn't.

Comes with you

  • ✓Every link and its title.
  • ✓The day you saved it. Your oldest saves stay your oldest.
  • ✓Your tags. They become tags here, so smart folders pick them up.
  • ✓Your Instapaper export, if that's where you landed after Pocket.

Not yet

  • –Read and archived status. Everything arrives as a plain save. There's no unread count here, so nothing piles up.
  • –Article text. We fetch each page fresh. If a link has died since you saved it, you still have the link.

Browser bookmark files (HTML) import the same way.

Questions

Answered plainly

Anything else, email support@maybelater.io — a person reads it.

Do I need Plus?
No. Importing is free, and so is the Sunday digest. Plus is for heavy savers, not for getting in the door.
I never exported. Is it too late?
Pocket stopped offering exports in October 2025, so without the file there's nothing to bring over. That's alright. Start fresh, and the first digest arrives Sunday.
How long does it take?
Your part is a few minutes: upload, glance at the preview, confirm. Summaries and tags fill in over the next hour or so, longer for thousands of links. The import page shows progress, and you can close it and come back.
What about the things I'd already archived?
They arrive as ordinary saves, same as the unread ones. MaybeLater doesn't keep an unread count, so an old archive isn't a backlog. It's just your library.
Will my tags come over?
Yes. They become your tags here, up to ten per link, and smart folders pick them up right away.
Can I get my data back out?
Yes, from your profile, any time. A CSV in Pocket's format, so it imports into anything that takes a Pocket file, including us. Or JSON with everything: tags, folders, read state, summaries. Deleting your account is one click too.

Bring it over.

A few minutes now. No re-saving, no starting from zero.
